Belgian singer-songwriter Iskander Moon combines classical finesse and contemporary pop. His new single Ghosts and his higly anticipated debut album were written, recorded and produced by Moon himself, with mixing by Jasper Maekelberg (Balthazar, Warhaus, Sylvie Kreusch).
His first EP Are You Lost Here? was released in April 2024. The tracks embrace a warm, atmospheric folk pop sound in which strings, bassoon and flugelhorn colour the layered arrangements. Influences from Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens are audible, but Iskander’s classical background shines through unconsciously in the rich harmonies and subtle dynamics. With his new single Ghosts, Iskander Moon takes the next step combining a powerful chorus with a dark theme. The song showcases Iskander’s talent as a composer, arranger and producer in all its glory. He wrote Ghosts during an autumn in Berlin. “I often sat at the grand piano in my flat. I wanted to write a song about the search for yourself while life, with all its challenges, rushes by. The melody immediately felt powerful – a nice contrast to the dark theme. Ghosts is about that ongoing search and the twilight zone we have to embrace in order to move forward.”
Iskander Moon is an artist who is constantly on the move and has often performed in the Netherlands as support for Néomi, Jake Bugg, Kids With Buns and Novastar among others. Anyone who experiences him live or lets themselves be carried away by his music will discover a world in which melancholy and hope go hand in hand – and in which getting lost is perhaps the best way to find yourself.
