On 24 September, ECHT! released their long-awaited debut album INWANE via groove-obsessed, Ghent-based label Sdban Ultra. ECHT! is an instrumental, futuristic foursome inspired by conceptual electronic music and music production. The name is a direct reference to the fact that their sound is ‘real’, performed with conventional musical instruments as opposed to computer music that the production might suggest. Inspired by artists such as Jonwayne, DJ Rashad, Deantoni Parks, J Dilla, Dorian Concept and Aphex Twin, REAL combines electro, hip-hop, trap, funk and futuristic jazz, resulting in a distinct and unique sound.
With BBC Radio 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson as a fan, ECHT! was voted the third best band at the RedBull Elektropedia Awards in 2020 in the ‘Fresh On the Scene’ category. ECHT! recently played at North Sea Jazz festival at Bird in Rotterdam.
