Kay Slice is on a mission: to merge his music and cultural heritage. It is a calling; a soundtrack to his life and an extension of his identity. He flew to Ghana to study, create and record. Starting in the south of Ghana to the east, to the north and back. A voyage of discovery full of hidden rhythms and storytelling into the source of highlife music, from which the afrobeat once sprang.
The new album From Back To Back is full of stories from the perspective of a ‘3rd culture kid’. What does it mean to be different everywhere? How do you mix and touch without getting ‘mixed up’? It’s about bringing different influences together and making a hybrid of hip hop, soul, afrobeat and traditional sounds.
