ROTTERDAM, LAAT JE HOREN!
Iconic concerts, failures and legendary festivals.

Rotterdam is a pioneer in live music. The Netherlands’ first stadium concerts were in De Kuip, Dutch Woodstock was in the Kralingse Bos and the great inspiration for Lowlands festival took place in the Doelen. Michael Jackson, Sex Pistols, Nirvana, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Jeff Buckley, Sonic Youth and Jimi Hendrix: all came to Rotterdam.

Gideon Karting and Micha Zaat delve into history in search of Rotterdam’s appeal as a city of music. They spoke to dozens of concert organisers, musicians and spectators. What went on behind the scenes? Who were responsible for the successes? And what went wrong? All these stories together reveal Rotterdam’s unique strength as a concert city.

Gideon Karting (1976) is an artist manager and concert organiser. He previously published Work Never With Your Idols. Micha Zaat (1996), besides being a journalist, is a guitarist in the Rotterdam rock band Tramhaus.
